about our residencies
ECW residencies provide artists and makers with an opportunity to develop new clay work in our studios.
Typically, a residency with us will be three to six months long. During that time, you will have the opportunity to research, experiment, exchange ideas and make new work.
You will have an existing track record in pottery, ceramics or another creative discipline entirely but are using clay to resolve a creative idea. We are always open to interesting ideas and exchanges, so do get in touch to let us know.
You must have funding in place prior to your application.
If you are using Instagram as evidence of your portfolio then please make sure the link is open.
Applications are Closed right now for our next intake.

ECW Ceramicist in Residence, David Gray, is originally from South Lanarkshire, Scotland. He settled in Edinburgh after studying Material Practice at Edinburgh University. He has a background in sculpture, ceramics and sign writing and studied geometric and biomorphic art at the Princes Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London.
His ceramic practice started as a member of the Glasgow Ceramic Studio in 2002 and has continued through projects and symposiums in India and China and in Vietnam through Inknut studio which he co-founded. This focused on developing architectural screens for the hot climate and on heritage projects.
He will be developing sculptures and architectural ceramics using extruded sections during his residency at ECW as well as providing some classes on techniques for extruded and hand-built ceramics.
