ECW Kilnhouse is based at Abbeymount studios in Leith, Edinburgh's Creative quarter. We are surrounded by small cafes, bakeries and restaurants. We have both the bustling city and the tranquility of Royal park on our doorstep so we have the best of both worlds.
We are fully resourced with 3 electric kilns, a variety of high quality wheels, hand building tables, slab roller, pug mill, spray booth, clay extruder, tools, design studio desks and business office space available.
We have a variety of membership options to suit everyone from beginners to serious hobbyists to emerging professional ceramicists.
Studio membership entitles you to open access 24 hours,7 days a week.
ECW Kilnhouse is an open practice pottery studio available to anyone with a with a passion for working creatively with clay.
Our members range from people who have a dedicated weekly practice to people who are working towards creative industry careers as studio potters.
You can join as a monthly member or drop in for practice sessions if you are a
travelling artist visiting the city or if you are a creative with a specific project you need our support with.
If you are a complete beginner or at intermediate level you can take one of our courses to get you started.
We work in partnership with Edinburgh design school who teach our classes.
Once you have studied with us to at least Foundation level 2 or 3 you will be ready to practice unsupervised in our studio refining and developing your practice.
ECW is a well resourced friendly and supportive studio dedicated to promoting and developing creative practice with clay.
We have a tiered, affordable membership for use of our shared ceramic facilities.
This enables members at different stages of practice to work and get the best from their membership.
ECW Membership consists of:
£70 Monthly membership
£90 – Monthly Membership + (Plus)
£150 – Incubator Membership (Creative Crofters)
£190– Incubator Membership (Creative Crofters) + design desk space
We are also working towards creating a shared pottery dedicated towards early career professional potters. (Costs TBD)
